since san francisco has a decided lack of cuban food, i’ve decided to try and make my own. first up, ropa viega. tonight i tried the recipe from tasteofcuba.com.

something is missing. but is it? i just found a recipe at the cubamania forums, and its quite similar… simpler, in fact. it tastes like a missing spice to me, but perhaps its far simpler, just the natural taste of the vegetables not obscured by anything? this is going to require additional research.

  1. Cuban Recipe Guy Says:

Hello, the recipe for ropa vieja on Taste of Cuba is traditional, not sure if something would taste as though it’s missing. Also, there are a couple of Cuban restaurants throughout the Bay Area, had you checked out the site’s restaurant guide?
