so, you want to tweak your postgresql install on your mac? well, you’ll run into two problems. first, you’ll need to bump your shared memory segment in order to increased your shared buffers. then, when you go to increase the number of connections, don’t go too high, or you’ll hit:
FATAL: sem_open("/pgsql-5432248") failed: Too many open files, a
known problem that is supposedly fixed, but not for me on 10.4.3. max_connections of 200 works fine.
edit: i was unable to make more than 95 connections, so there’s something in osx that’s limiting me..
